What they are

Why blackheads appear

A blackhead is an open clogged pore. Oil and dead skin cells build up, and the surface oxidises and turns dark—it is not dirt. They are most common on the nose, chin and forehead where oil glands are busiest.

Daily routine

How to get rid of blackheads step by step

Cleanse twice daily

Use a gentle cleanser; an oil cleanser first at night helps loosen sunscreen and sebum.

Salicylic acid (BHA)

Oil-soluble, so it works inside the pore. Start with 0.5–2% two or three nights a week.

Clay mask

Kaolin or bentonite once a week can absorb excess oil on the T-zone.

Retinoid

Over time, retinol or adapalene helps keep pores from clogging. Introduce slowly.

Light moisturiser

Oily skin still needs hydration; choose non-comedogenic gel textures.

03

Avoid

What makes blackheads worse

Squeezing

Pressing can push debris deeper, stretch pores and leave marks.

Harsh scrubs

Gritty particles irritate skin without reaching inside pores.

Pore strips every day

They lift the top only; pores refill within days.

Help

When to see a dermatologist

If blackheads come with painful spots, cysts or scarring, a dermatologist can offer prescription retinoids or professional extractions done safely.
