01

Prep

Start with moisturized skin

Apply an unscented lotion or balm right after a shower, then spray. Fragrance clings to hydrated skin and evaporates quickly from dry skin.

02

Where

Where to apply

Pulse points

Wrists, neck and inner elbows are warm and diffuse scent.

Hair & clothes

Fibres hold scent for hours; spray from a distance.

Behind the knees

Warmth rises through the day.

Don't rub

Rubbing wrists breaks down top notes.

03

Choose

Pick the right strength

Eau de parfum

15–20% oils; typically 6–8 hours.

Eau de toilette

5–15%; lighter, 3–5 hours.

Base notes

Woods, amber, vanilla and musk last longest.

Layering

Matching body lotion extends wear.

04

Store

Keep it fresh

Store bottles away from heat, light and bathroom steam, ideally in their box. Oxidised perfume smells weaker and sour.

Common questions

Why can't I smell my perfume after an hour?

Your nose gets used to it. Others can often still smell it.

Does Vaseline make perfume last longer?

A thin layer of balm on pulse points can help scent cling.

Is it better to spray perfume on clothes?

Clothes hold scent longer, but test on a hidden area as some oils can stain.
