Morning routine for oily skin
1. Gel or foaming cleanser
A gentle, sulphate-free wash — or just water if your skin feels tight.
2. Niacinamide serum
Helps balance oil and refine the look of pores.
3. Lightweight moisturiser
An oil-free gel or gel-cream.
4. SPF 30–50
A fluid or matte sunscreen, every day — even on cloudy UK days.
Evening
Evening routine for oily skin
1. Double cleanse if wearing SPF/makeup
Cleansing oil or balm emulsified with water, then a gel cleanser.
2. Salicylic acid (BHA) 2–3 nights a week
Clears inside pores to reduce blackheads and spots.
3. Light moisturiser
Skipping moisturiser can make skin produce more oil.
Moisturiser
Best moisturiser for oily skin
Look for
Gel or gel-cream textures with glycerin, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide or squalane. Labelled 'non-comedogenic'.
Avoid
Heavy butters, coconut oil and thick balms on the face.
Tip
Use a pea-sized amount and let it absorb before SPF.
Mistakes
Common mistakes
Over-washing
Washing more than twice a day disrupts the barrier.
Alcohol-heavy toners
Feel mattifying but can trigger rebound oil.
Scrubbing
Physical scrubs irritate; use a chemical exfoliant instead.
